What is the piece’s impact? What started as a play has evolved into a global movement, now called V-Day. Volunteers put on this play and proceeds support anti-violence organizations throughout the world. It’s rasied over $25 million.
How does this project relate to this change as art? Through episodic character monologues viewers are made aware of issues such as rape, battery, incest, female genital mutilation and sexual slavery against women and girls.The actors in the play may be professional actors or, as in many instances, local community members.
What makes this an artistic project? It’s a piece of theatre written and developed by Tony Award winning writer, performer and activist, Eve Ensler.
